Thesis // Wrap Collection // Luxury

My Senior Thesis collection is about working with the absence of all traditional closures like zippers, buttons, hook and eyes, and snaps. My initial inspiration came from traditional robes, which brought me to investigate different monk cultures and the way they dresses. These monks wore clothing without modern forms of closures.

I specifically investigated the Aghori monk culture because of their unique life style. In the Aghori culture, they re-purpose every part of the body after death, which inspired me to use as much of my fabrics as I could. When fraying my fabric I cut up from the selvage to insure a straight grain. My fraying and controlled raw edges mimics the Aghori monks primitive and earthy culture.

When developing my collection I worked to discover new ways modern women can dress, with simply wrapping or tying around their bodies. The clothes I have created are versatile in the way that they can be mutated to create different looks. The collection has the ability to be comfortable while also maintaining a high end aesthetic on all body shapes. This collection was designed with the intention of being highly merchandisable, interchangeable and salable.
